Kunjum murder: Romesh Sharma, 5 others get lifer

NEW DELHI: Romesh Sharma, alleged frontman of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, was on Monday sentenced to life imprisonment by a Delhi court for hatching conspiracy to murder his fashion designer girlfriend Kunjum Budhiraja. Five others including his nephew Surinder Mishra, Hemchand, Santram, Ramesh and woman accused Tejinder Virdi alias Dolly were also given a life term for entering into conspiracy to eliminate Budhiraja. Sharma and five others had been held guilty in the Kunjum murder case last week. They were convicted under section 302 and 120-B of Indian Penal Code. Another woman accused Jaspreet Virdi alias Sonu was acquitted for want of evidence. Budding fashion designer Kunjum was murdered on March 20, 1999. The prosecution had told the court that Kunjum was murdered by people engaged by Surinder Mishra, at the farmhouse when she visited it on March 20, 1999. During the investigation, it was allegedly found that Surinder Mishra, Dolly and Sonu wanted to get rid of Kunjum as they felt that while they were taking care of Romesh and attending to his court cases, Romesh was giving away his property to Kunjum.
