Ahmedabad: Members of a Hindu right-wing organisation ransacked the office of a private news channel in Ahmedabad on Saturday, protesting against the inclusion of MF Husain's name in a Bharat Ratna poll.
The TV channel is conducting an SMS poll on who should be named for the nation's highest civilian honour this year.
The Hindu outfit, identified as Hindu Samrajya Sena, has voiced strong protest against the inclusion of noted painter MF Husain's name among the possible choices in the poll.
"The group ransacked the office, broke office equipment and also assaulted an office assistant," an employee at the TV station was quoted by agencies as saying. A staff member was hurt in the incident.
Senior police officers were at the TV channel's office, carrying out investigation.
The attackers plastered the TV channel's office with poster and banners describing the channel as traitors and demanded an apology.
However, a complaint in this regard was yet to be registered.
Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah strongly condemned the attack . The minister said that he condemned the attack and promised 'strict' and 'quick action' by the police in the matter.
