New Delhi: The Goa authorities on Saturday put the marriage of Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt and his long-time girlfriend Manyata on hold, saying "the couple used forged documents to register their marriage."
The sub-registrar's office, where the marriage had been registered, said "the marriage is not legal" and all documents pertaining to the marriage have been sent to the Law Department for scrutiny. "As such, the marriage cannot go ahead till the law department clears it," it said.
Official sources said South Goa collector G P Naik has asked for all the documents submitted for the registration of the marriage and told the Law Department to check the legalities of the same.
According to the certificate, Manyata has been a resident of South Goa for six months. But the local officer says he never signed the papers and that his signature on the certificate was forged.
The sources said before applying for the residence certificate, Manyata, Sanjay Dutt and their local contacts had tried to get a certificate issued from outside Margaon. But the authorities there refused to issue the same.
