In a stern message to the media, Chhote Nawab Saif Ali has said that his relationship with Bollywood hottie Kareena Kapoor can only be pushed so far.
"Don’t ask me why I didn’t dance with her for that song from Jab We Met at a recent awards function," he snapped, "I refused, because it wasn’t my song (it is Kareena’s earlier love, Shahid Kapoor’s song), and I don’t want my relationship with Kareena being exploited in a way I feel isn’t right. I personally have nothing against anyone. But why should I dance to anyone else’s song when I’ve so many of my own?" He has a point. And singing and dancing figure prominently in Saif’s life these days. Kareena, who was there to cheer and support Saif at his rock concert in Delhi last week, isn’t really fond of that genre of music. "I don’t think Kareena likes rock music from the 1970s at all. Retro stuff is not her scene," regretted Saif, "but she was there in Delhi for me, and that’s what counts. It felt good just to have her. She couldn’t be there for me in Bangalore, Mumbai and Kolkata because she was shooting abroad." In Delhi, Saif even dedicated two songs to his love. "I sang two of my favourite numbers, Back In Black and Smoke On The Water, for her. Thanks to Kareena, I discovered I could carry a note on stage. I can sing, but just about," he said. Coming back to his relationship with her, Saif dismissed stories that a possessive Kareena had objected to the sizzling scenes being aired on television between Bipasha Basu and him from Abbas-Mustan’s Race. "I don’t think they’re excessively steamy. And, Kareena and I don’t interfere in each others’ work. To me, more exciting than the love scenes are the stunts I’ve performed for Race. Earlier, in Omkara, I did play a daredevil. But more in speech and body language than action," he said.
