New Delhi: At least 5 people have died and 40 seriously injured when a five-storey hotel near Kalupur railway station collapsed on Sunday morning.
Officials fear that the death toll may rise as many people are still trapped in the debris.
Hotel Shagun, a three storey building, was located just opposite the Ahmedabad railway station and was booked out at the time of thee incident.
According to eyewitnesses the building first tilted to the left and then came crashing down.
Eyewitnesses say the building tilted towards the left and came crashing down. Most of the rooms of the hotel were full.
According to people living in the same area, most of the victims were students who had come to Ahmedabad to appear in a railway recruitment board examination, which was to be held on Sunday.
Ambulances and fire engines have been called in and rescue operations are still on.
Senior officials of Ahmedabad Corporation and some members of Gujarat Legislative Assembly have rushed to the spot.
